Everything about the sea is my favorite.
As the general manager of DS China, Arnaud Ribault has been working for Citroen passionately since his graduation from college in 1995. During the career of over 20 years, Ribault had his footprints in many different counties, including Switzerland, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, Maldives, Denmark and Russia, etc., until in 2011 he came to China for the preparation program of CAPSA.
"Trips, meetings, different people, different countries, that is my life."
　　For reporters like me, it is a routine to observe the work state of auto executives like Ribault. Strategies and innovations, development and progress, those are what we focus on. But the idea of looking at their real life may never come to us. If you do not try, you could never know how interesting Ribault is after work and those particular hobbies he has been keeping.
At the age of 10, Ribault had his first sailing with friends and their parents in Brittany region, west of France. From then on, water sports fascinate him, and become an indispensable part of his life. Until today, sailing, windsurfing and surfing are still the favorites of Ribault
"I will not go very far by windsurfing, about five kilometers. Each year I will do it at least once."
At the ages of 20 to 30, Ribault lived in France, making possible for him to do the water sports two to three times a week. Now his whole family is living Shanghai, and the majority of his time will be spent in China. As more and more jobs come, Ribault has less and less private time. He had to lower the frequency of doing the sports to once a year, enjoying the fun of "running with the wind" at the west coast of France during his annual vacation.
"Of course my vacation is in summer, and I will directly fly to Brittany."
　　Despite of the limited time, Ribault never lost his enthusiasm in sport.
　　"Every week I run with five to ten friends." During the past three years in China, Ribault kept running a half marathon two times a year. In this May, he is going to participate in the Beijing International Great Wall Marathon.

After graduation,Ribault joined Citroen at once , from 1995 to 2006 , He had the work experiences in Citroen (Swiss) and Citroen Europe . In the year of 2006 , Ribault hold the post of the Executive Director in Citroen (Swiss) AB , and then , he was to be served as Lean Manager of Citoen and Executive Director of Citroen (Russia) . From 2011 to now , Ribault came to China to be the General Manager of CAPSA Sales Company DS Brand .

Windsurfing

Windsurfing is an emerging water sport that combines the elements of sailing and surfing. It consists of a board with centerboard, mast with a free-rotating universal joint, sail and boom. It is powered by wind on a sail. An athlete stands on the board and rigs the boom to make it surf on the water.
I am the fans of DS.
There is such a saying: doing a job you like makes the eight hours happy, and finding a person you love makes the left time happy.
Ribault is such a happy man, owning a perfect family. And at the same time, DS is not merely a job for him, but also his hobby.
Since its premiere in Paris in 1955, DS has been upholding the spirit of innovation and the idea of uniqueness, which attracts Ribault the most.
Ribault owns an original DS23 vintage car which rolled out in 1974. This car was bought by his friend long ago from a French ambassador to Spain. Since the old age, maintenance fees of the car was quite high. So Ribault decided to bear the cost together with his friend. Seen from the pictures taken at the Christmas holiday, the car looks excellent after renovation.
"That car has been sold out. Only the renovation coast can buy a brand new DS5. So I can just treat it as a hobby."
That is why Ribault would, apart from water sports, run this fancy vintage car across streets in Paris and Brittany every time he went back to the west coast of France.
　　Not long ago, at DS5’s Paris debut, Ribault invited his good friends, dealers and media friends to run the car, in order to share the spirit of DS. That is also one of the directions DS has been promoting in the course of brand building.

    You said you love the sea. What kind of person do you think would love water sports?

    Ribault: People who like sea or water sports may have something in common. First, they follow the basic rules of the nature. Second, they learn and enrich themselves step by step. Moreover, either sailing or windsrfing is a sport that calls for collaboration. You cannot finish it alone. That means you should trust your team members very much. It is a sport that can test the mutual trust between members.

    Car is also one of your hobbies. Dose this inspire you when you are working in DS?

    Ribault: Of course. The most direct connection is that I am a DS car fan. That is where my passion comes from. DS is a legendary car brand. It has been widely admired since its premiere in Europe at Auto Paris 1995. Since then, the DS brand has been upholding the spirit of innovation and the idea of uniqueness. So I hope everyone could enjoy the passion to achieve a certain goal.

    Between developing a hobby and developing a brand, what are the similarities and the differences?

    Ribault: First of all, building a new brand in China is not merely a job. It is more like developing an interest or a hobby. Now that I am a DS fan, helping DS open the Chinese market feels like developing a hobby. Of course, my everyday job should continue. Challenges and difficulties always occur in my job, but I love them, since challenges keep everyone in well state. That is where our passion comes from.

    Working in China always fills you positive energy? Do you ever feel exhausted?

    Ribault: I cannot say there are no difficulties when doing my job. But everything has two sides, positive and negative. If you treat it positively, busy work would never make you feel tired. But when the situation becomes complicated, I may feel exhausted.

I was very lucky to have a chat with a senior reporter before the day I interviewed Ribault. He said he admired the man because of his dedication to his job. According to the reporter, Ribault’s father got seriously ill lately, Ribault took the earliest flight to France on Friday, and sit back in his office in Shanghai on time on Monday morning. That is to say, apart from the flight time of over 20 hours, there was a very short time for him to meet his father. In the afternoon of the interview day, when our photographer, makeup girl and I arrived the interview room under the guidance of DS staff, I saw Ribault sit behind a laptop, starring and thinking. I leaned forward quietly and saw him answering emails. At that moment, I suddenly understand how much he deserved the respect of the senior reporter, since he is a “workaholic” who would not let go even a second of time.
　　It is our first time to do this kind of interview in such a rush. But the effectiveness of the PR team of CAPSA made me feel so impressive. They only used one day to approve my application. That is gorgeous! It is said that success lies in details. With such a diligent leader and such an effective team, success, I believe, is just a matter of time.
