Andrea Baldi comes from Italy, the home country of Lamborghini. Since he is now working in Beijing, his family moved into the city to live with him. Baldi has two daughter, one of 8 years old and the other of only one year old. He likes swimming, riding bicycles and skiing, and spends the rest of the time mostly with his family.
His elder daughter likes rock climbing. In terms of hobby development, Baldi believes that passion is the most important thing. One would like to find what interests him most if he had a passion for it. “Just like running a 700-horsepower Lamborghini, it is quite challenging, but also interesting.” This is the thing in common between developing a hobby and building a brand, Baldi told Tencent Auto.
Influenced by his father, his daughter is also fond of cars, especially Lamborghini cars. Baldi would let her sit in and feel the car once he has an opportunity. When the Huracan was displayed in China and Singapore, luckily, Baldi’s daughter became the youngest experiencer.
“She felt very excited,” Andrea Baldi looked quite proud. However, that also brought him a happy concern. “She likes Lamborghini so much that I am afraid she would ask me to buy one when she grows up.”
“Actually, many of our customers have the same experience. In their childhood days, they had a toy car with a Lamborghini logo, or a poster of Lamborghini car on the wall. They see that car as their dream car. Then many of them, after growing up, make the dream come true and become owners of Lamborghini cars,” Baldi told Tencent Auto.
“Visionary, pure, absolute” is the official expression of Lamborghini spirit. “Visionary” comes from the DNA of Lamborghini. When he created the brand 50 years ago, Ferrucio Lamborghini set his goal of building a one-and-only supercar brand. The spirit was kept and passed down generation to generation. “Pure” refers to its design. A beautiful supercar should not only have a fancy look, but extreme performance in every aspect. From the engine to the technology, every detail should reflect the spirit of pursuing perfection. The word “absolute” means no easy compromise and no blind pursuit of sales numbers. What values most is to deliver best super cars to customers.
However, Baldi preferred to use “Fast, Beauty, Dream” to describe the brand with his daughter. “Just as most of our customers understand, Lamborghini is a brand consisting of more passion and dynamics, and its models are people’s dream cars, representing the highest level of manufacturing supercars.”

Andrea Baldi Mr. Andrea Baldi was born in Italy. After obtaining his degree in Industrial Engineering from the Università degli Studi di Bologna, Andrea Baldi held a number of portfolios in Italy with DUCATI Motor Holding Spa. Between September 2008 and November 2010, Andrea Baldi headed Asia Pacific Sales in the region for Ducati (Shanghai, PRC) and in December 2010, joined Automobili Lamborghini Spa as Head of South East Asia & Pacific in Singapore, where he defined and implemented the development strategy across 12 different countries. In September 2013, Andrea Baldi became Managing Director of Automobili Lamborghini China in Beijing.

Behind the “six months”
Although he began working in Beijing only half a year ago, Baldi was not a stranger with China. It was not only because he had work experiences in Shanghai before coming to Beijing, but also thanks to his team, who can help him do his job more efficiently in China.
Talking about the Chinese market, like other foreign executives, Baldi used the words “changing very fast” and “developing rapidly”. He said modestly that he had learned a very important thing here. “Our everything, including attitude to the customers and business skills, should evolve with such a development pace. We need to change, and must avoid old thoughts such as ‘it was always like that’. That is why we would like to treat the Chinese customers more flexibly.”
Now Lamborghini is bringing more personalized products here into China. “Most of our Chinese customers are quite young and highly sensitive with fashion, so we would like to bring them more special and individualized services.”
Baldi said, as an example, the Aventador sells so well worldwide that customers have to wait about one year for the car after reservation. But most Chinese customers want to get his car as soon as possible, so the headquarter decided to put China first, that is, our Chinese customers only need to wait six months. “Since China is such an important market for Lamborghini, we must do better than our competitors.”...[Detail]

    Andrea Baldi:There are a lot of things in common between the two, I believe, and the most important one is that we have infinite passion and can find our interest in it. Just like driving a 700-horsepower Lamborghini supercar, it is full of challenges but also makes us joyful. Now our customers are better than me at driving Lamborghini cars, while my daughter is also better than me in rock climbing, and I am very glad to see these.

    Andrea Baldi:My deepest impression about China is its high pace of development and fast changing customer attitudes, which call for more flexibility for us in serving Chinese customers and make us adjust our business plans accordingly. That is also the most important thing I learned here since joining Lamborghini China. For instance, most of our Chinese customers are quite young and highly sensitive with fashion, so we must provide more individualized products and services for them to meet their diverse needs.

    Tencent Auto: Would you pay attention to the feedbacks from your Chinese employees in your daily job and management?

    Andrea Baldi:Of course. There are many Chinese colleagues in my team. We have different languages and varied cultures, but based on the Lamborghini culture we share, they are able to help me inject the Chinese culture, open my mind, understand and fit into the market. I believe it will be even better if there are also Chinese employees at our Italy headquarter.

Every child has a dream about automobiles, which probably has its source from a toy car with a Lamborghini logo, or a poster of a Lamborghini car pasted on the wall. In a morning of early Spring in Beijing, with such a dream, I went into the office of Andrea Baldi, Managing Director, Automobili Lamborghini China . He is much younger than I thought. With a Lamborghini logo on it, his grey casual sweater looked more than ordinary. This just shows the charm of the brand, which fascinated the world from the very beginning. Our talk starts with his daughter. Although Baldi hoped his older daughter have a more girlish hobby, the 8-year-old girl is the only child applying to learn the Chinese Kungfu. Baldi certainly would not refuse her request beause she really likes it. He said one could find what inerests him most if he has passion in it. During the one-hour interview, we talked about everthing but strategy and products. But that is enough for me to understand Lamborghini more deeply. Despite a short time of assuming his new post, Baldi is not short of knowledge about China, which may essentially conntribute to Lamborghini’s more success in China.
